AT THE CORE OF OUR BUSINESS IS THE CULTURE OUR PEOPLE HAVE CULTIVATED THROUGH DECADES OF TEAMWORK, INNOVATION AND GROWTH.
LEADERSHIP TEAM
Chairman
John Sturgess
Majority shareholder and Chairman, John has managed significant profitable growth for MGS in a career spanning over 30 years. He joined the family firm after serving an apprenticeship as an electronics engineer in 1983, when the company was comprised of four staff members occupying one building and worked his way up to MD in 1991, where he began to lead the company to its current position in the market.
'John is the best boss I have ever worked for. Approachable, likable, fair and considerate. The kind of person I try to be.'
Managing Director
Neil Garrity
A time served toolmaker with managerial experience, Neil joined MGS in 2010 as Operations Manager. He co-ordinated the move to our current site, creating this world-class facility from an empty shell. Now Managing Director, Neil is also a shareholder working alongside John to help steer MGS towards its vision.
'Neil has the technical knowledge, the experience and the energy to motivate his employees. A job left in his hands is a job well done.'
"IT'S A BRILLIANT COMPANY TO WORK FOR.
A CONSTANTLY IMPROVING AND EXPANDING BUSINESS AND
A SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT TO WORK IN."

Technical Director
Judson Smythe
His impressive career began as a tool-and-die apprentice before specialising in plastic injection moulding. Originally from South Africa, Judson moved to the UK and joined MGS in 2016 before quickly becoming Technical Director in 2018.
'Judson has vast expertise and experience in the industry. He’s good at his job and he is what I deem successful to be. He is full of confidence and passion.'
Sales Director
Mark Preston
After completing his tool-making apprenticeship, Mark was one of the first in the UK to also complete a technician engineer's apprenticeship and has won numerous awards over his career. From his technical start, he became a manufacturing process-and-tool design engineer before eventually moving into sales, becoming the technical sales manager for MGS in 2006. After a brief period expanding his career elsewhere, Mark returned in 2018 as Sales Director and is now driving new partnerships for MGS across a variety of industries.
"MARK IS THE TRUSTWORTHY GUY THAT'S ALWAYS ON YOUR SIDE.
AND YOU KNOW WHEN YOU SHAKE HIS HAND, HE MEANS IT.
WITH EXTENSIVE EXPERIENCE IN THE INDUSTRY, HE CAN REALLY TAKE A PROJECT
THROUGH EACH STEP AND BRING IT TO LIFE. AFTER DECADES IN SALES, HIS MOTTO
CONTINUES TO BE 'THE ANSWER IS YES, SO WHAT IS THE QUESTION?'"
THE VALUES WE MOULD BY
ALWAYS PURSUE KNOWLEDGE AS THOUGH IT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU CAN DO. LEARN AND IMPROVE EVERY DAY.
OUR PRINCIPLES SET US APART. THEY SHOULD NEVER BE COMPROMISED. BE CONSCIENTIOUS, HONEST, AND FAIR IN EVERYTHING YOU DO.
WITHOUT AWARENESS, WE CANNOT GROW AS INDIVIDUALS OR A COMPANY. BE ALERT, CONSCIOUS IN YOUR DECISION MAKING, AND TUNED IN TO OUR PERFORMANCE.
THE MGS MINDSET
Creating a work environment for positive attitudes to flourish is critical to keeping a team’s productivity at levels that it is proud of. Investing in staff training and sharing a culture of open communication are just two of the ways in which we nurture positivity.
LEADERS AT ALL LEVELS
We encourage leaders at all levels of the organisation; a leadership position at MGS is not a position of authority awarded to those at the top but a responsibility embraced across every section of the business. As a result, we have an empowered, dedicated, and passionate team that champions your success and ours.
CONNECTED TO THE MANUFACTURING COMMUNITY
Part of regional, national, and international associations, we take every opportunity we can to learn and share the best practices. Being an active participant in the wider manufacturing picture is what helps us all move forward and succeed.
COMMITTED TO OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY
From raising funds for good causes to taking on community challenges and volunteering, our team consists of people who pitch in, stand up, and have fun doing so.
Our MD helps to steer the regeneration of our local town, while many of our employees raise funds for causes close to their heart and even run 10 km every year for a local charity.
